Ah Gong's Talks《阿公出一只嘴》: New Dialect Drama Follows Retired Screenwriter-Turned Fortune-Teller Helping Residents Navigate Everyday Challenges
15 October 2026
Ah Gong's Talks《阿公出一只嘴》 is a new eight-episode dialect drama that explores themes of ageing, family and social connectedness through humour, warmth and relatable community stories. Set in a neighbourhood coffee shop, the series follows a retired screenwriter who reinvents himself as a self-styled "fortune-teller", using his gift for storytelling to help residents navigate everyday challenges and access support available in the community. The drama stars veteran actors Marcus Chin, Richard Low and Xiang Yun, alongside content creator Ong Yi Ting, popularly known as "that hokkien girl" for championing the Hokkien dialect among younger audiences through her social media content. Together, they bring to life a cast of characters whose stories resonate with seniors and their families across generations.
At the heart of the series is Ong Fu Gui (Marcus Chin), a talkative retired screenwriter who misses having an audience and finds renewed purpose as the neighbourhood's unofficial "fortune-teller". Together with his granddaughter Xin Qing (Ong Yi Ting), a social worker, he helps residents work through common concerns and connect with practical sources of support. Rounding out the ensemble are Fu Gui's longtime friend Tan Tua Huat (Richard Low) and their childhood friend Rose (Xiang Yun), a dance instructor.
Across its eight episodes, the series addresses issues close to home, from cost-of-living pressures and retirement planning to caregiving, employment support, scam awareness and misinformation. Through humour and relatable storytelling, the series introduces support available in the community while encouraging seniors and their families to stay informed, connected and resilient.
Ah Gong's Talks《阿公出一只嘴》 premieres on 23 October 2026, airing every Friday from 12pm to 12.30pm on Channel 8's dialect belt. Episodes will also be available on the gov.sg (opens in new tab) YouTube channel and mewatch following the free-to-air broadcast.
