6 October 2026
Parliament Sitting on 6 October 2026
Question for Written Answer
35. Ms Lee Hui Ying asked the Minister for Digital Development and Information (a) in each of the past three years, how many instances of public feedback have been received on mobile connectivity coverage gaps on the MRT network; and (b) what have been the main causes of those gaps identified through IMDA’s Quality of Service standards checks.
Answer
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) conducts regular audits of mobile coverage provided by mobile network operators in MRT tunnels. Overall, these operators have met the Quality of Service standard of more than 99% mobile coverage in MRT tunnels. These results are published on IMDA’s website.
Over the past two to three years, IMDA received feedback from about 10 members of the public annually about pockets of poor coverage along MRT lines. For the North-South, East-West and Downtown Lines, mobile network operators are upgrading their mobile installations to replace aging equipment and cater to new train designs. These enhancement works are expected to be completed by the first half of 2027. IMDA will continue to monitor progress and service performance metrics closely.
