MDDI's Response to PQ on Compliance Timeframes for Platforms to Remove Non-Consensual Intimate Images under Direction of Online Safety Commission
7 July 2026
Parliament Sitting on 7 July 2026
Question for Written Answer
47 Miss Rachel Ong asked the Minister for Digital Development and Information (a) whether directions issued by the Online Safety Commission for the removal of verified non-consensual intimate images will be subject to prescribed compliance timeframes for platforms; and (b) if so, what will be the required timelines and how will they be determined.
Answer
Under the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act 2025, the Commissioner of Online Safety is empowered to issue directions to platforms to remove specified harmful content, including intimate image abuse. Directions may also be issued to communicators or administrators of groups or pages, depending on the circumstances of each case.
We understand how distressing it can be when victims have their intimate images shared online. Directions will include a clear timeline for compliance, so that the harmful content is stopped or removed as soon as is practicable.
