Parliament Sitting on 12 January 2026
Question for Written Answer
40. Ms Valerie Lee asked the Minister for Digital Development and Information whether the Government is concerned about the potential impact that Stomp might cause on public trust and the standards expected of state-supported platforms, given its content that often resembles tabloid-style coverage.
Answer
The Government does not intervene in the editorial positioning of individual newspapers or media outlets. Nevertheless, we expect all media outlets to uphold responsible journalism standards by ensuring their news reporting is accurate, fair and complies with the law.
Additionally, STOMP is individually licensed under the Online News Licensing Scheme (ONLS). Licensees have to comply with content standards to safeguard racial and religious harmony, public order, as well as good taste and decency. Member may wish to write in to STOMP if she has specific concerns.
